Gainesville - Atlanta - Random Motel
*************************************
TL 2.1 Time: 06:39 EST
MM: 0
It feels like the trip now really has started, I left Gainesville for good and have packed everything in my car. The Mile-counter has been set to 0 on this car and the counting starts!
TL 2.2
MM: 57
The first 50 miles are done, I have made the deal with myself that I try to stop every 50 miles so I can keep relaxt and alert on the way. At the moment I am really excited about my roadtrip! What will I experience, who will I meet and what wonderful places will I discover?
TL 2.3
MM: 176
Thirth stop and first time to tank. Only about 200 miles up north but it already feels like it is definitely freezing! I suppose I will have to replace my flipfops and thing pants quickly for more winter-capable clothing. The trip is going great so far and I am keeping my eyes open for oppurtunities along the way to stop, eat and see something nice.
TL 2.4 Time: 11:04 EST
MM: 240
Lunch/Breakfast at Subways, had a moment of doubt if I should go to the aviation museum but the waiter convinced me that really is nothing special. Georgia seems to be a very dry state at the moment with a lot of yellow grass en leafless trees. It has kind of a rural/rustic atmosphere but it gets a bit boring after a couple of miles. I have decided to get as quickly as possible to Atlanta since that seems to have some sightseeing possibilities.
TL 2.5
First cartrouble! On the highway while doing 70+ mph there was some kind of rubber hose laying on the track. I couldn't avoid it due to cars left and right so I had to hope for the best. A loud bang and the car started making a flapping noice on the rear right tire. I put my alarm lights on and head for the emergency lane. Laying flat on my belly I try to see what is wrong, and apparently it is a part of protective rubber cover underneath the car that has come half loose and is flapping against the spinning tire. A friendly pick-up driver stops and hands me a screwdriver from the most expansive tool-kit I have ever seen. (Who needs 12 kinds of screwdrivers?) I managed to tighten it back up for now.
TL 2.6 Time: 14:00 to 20:00
Atlanta
My GPS told me Atlanta has a few nice tourist thingies and the Worlds largest aquarium (according to them) is one of them. Parking was a bit difficult in a large city as Atlanta but the aquarium was really worth it!
I have touched some sharks and stingrays (being careful not to pull a Crikey!) and I was on time to see the feeding of the large tank and the whales. It was really awesome to see all those special fish and creatures up close.
Unfortunately the Coca Cola museum closed early today so I couldn't get in, but this was a good thing after all since I got in my first traffic Jam getting out of Atlanta. Due to this Traffic Jam and a later accident on my route (another 2h jam) I got completely behind on schedule and decided to pick a motel on the road instead of driving to my arrange sleeping spot (which was another 200mi). I had a nice rest and slept out a little bit for the nice drive the next day.
PS. Forgot to mention I also visited the University in atlanta during my walk trough downtown.
